Pryors Hayes Golf Club wins top national award for second year running

PRYORS Hayes Golf Club is celebrating after winning a prestigious national award for the second year running.
The club based in Oscroft near Tarvin beat off competition from 600 independent golf venues across the UK to once again be named Club Mirror’s ‘Golf Club of the Year’.
This year’s annual awards ceremony was held at the Palace Hotel in Manchester with prizes presented by BBC TV sports personality John Inverdale.
Pryors Hayes proprietor Martin Redrup and his team, comprising Joan Quinn, Jon Briggs, Chris Whalley, Matthew Yoxall, Carinth Pritchard and Amy Ellis-Taylor, were presented with a commemorative plate which will be proudly displayed in the club house alongside last year’s prize.
“The award justifies all the hard work undertaken by the Pryor’s team who always strive to deliver the very best service for everyone and in partnership with members uphold the great traditions of golf and companionship.
“In that respect this award is for all of us and I would like to publicly thank all the staff, committees and members for their ongoing support and loyalty.”
The judges, who were unanimous in declaring Pryors Hayes as winner for 2011, use reports made from a team of anonymous ‘mystery shoppers’ to help reach their decision.
They also examine every aspect of club life as well as off-course facilities and activities.
Furious golf club owner blasts ‘mindless scum’ who wreaked havoc on his Chester course
Nov 3 2011 by Gary Porter, Chester Chronicle
A FURIOUS golf club owner has blasted the ‘mindless scum’ who wreaked havoc on his course causing up to £50,000 worth of damage.
Martin Redrup, who owns Pryors Hayes Golf Club in Oscroft, Tarvin, is fuming after yobs left a trail of destruction at the course over the weekend.
During Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday, vandals drove golf buggies across the course damaging the greens before dumping them in ponds and ditches.
The yobs also wrecked a marquee, signage, fencing and other golfing equipment.
Mr Redrup said: “They’re mindless scum. They make you sick.
"There is an elderly lady who has her own buggy and they’ve vandalised that too, she’s traumatised.
"We are a community club and we do a lot of charity work.
"It’s disappointing that a mindless few have done this.
"It’s a small village and people talk so hopefully someone can come forward. The police have been unbelievable helpful."
Inspector Keith Curbishley added: "The actions of those responsible for this crime can be described as nothing more than mindless and pointless.
"The area around the golf club and indeed Tarvin as a whole enjoys a relatively low level of crime and anti-social behaviour, and an incident such as this is not just unusual but causes anguish and concern amongst the wider community.
"I would ask for any local people who may know the identities of anyone who they believe to have been involved in this incident to come forward and assist us with this investigation."
